Perez Hammers Day 3 for the Win in Gulfport Open!
Manny Perez used a heavy day 3 limit for the win, however, he was consistent too. Day 3 Perez’s limit was his heaviest of the 3 day event and landed a nice check for $10,000.00.
While Lance Reynolds led this event after day 1 and after day 2, he never felt comfortable. We have the best anglers in the country on this tour and I’ll only feel good when I lead after day 3, Reynolds stated during his on stage interview after he took the lead on day 2, heading into day 3.
One such angler is Punta Gorda’s own, Manny Perez who lurked just behind the leader after days 1 and day 2. Manny was on good fish during the week but hinted in his stage interviews both day 1 and day 2 that he was saving some fish for day 3 and did he ever.
Fans were kept up to date on the Yellowfin Elite Series fan page with short live video clips of Manny’s (and other anglers in the top 5) day on the water. As Jamie Hough came to the stage it was obvious Manny was being watched by some of his fellow competitors too.
When I saw Manny releasing a 9 pounder, I knew it was going to be tough to overtake him, Jamie told the crowd on day 3. Perez weighed in 75.92 pounds for the 3 days of competition and took home the top prize of $10,000.00.
In 2nd place and his best finish on the Elite Series, South Texas pro, Travis Land brought in 72.64 pounds on his 5 fish per day limit. Charleston South Carolina was well represented again by Huk fishing gear pro, Jamie Hough with 71.02 pounds, finishing in 3rd while the leader after 2 days fell to 4th with 67.63 pounds was BNA Marine SVC pro, Lance Reynolds. The top 5 rounded out with Quality Companies pro, Nicky Savoie who brought in a 3 day total of 65.54 pounds and did a great job pushing the field the entire weekend and landed the big bag of the tournament and a $3,500.00 bonus for his 26.48 pound limit.
