Barton Blast Past Field at the Harborwalk Hustle…
Charlie Barton made a statement during the final tour stop of the 2015 season in the Yellowfin Elite Redfish Series this past week. Barton lead wire to wire and set a pace that had the other anglers fishing for second from the first day.
The closest anglers after day 1 was Yellowfin pro, Gritter Griffin who happened to hammer the fish on day 1 but found himself over 3 pounds behind Barton at the conclusion of day 1’s weigh in.
Barton increased his lead after 2 days to nearly 5 pounds with Jeff Steckler stepping up to the second spot.
By his own admission Royal Purple Pro, Charlie Barton has struggled in season 2 on the Yellowfin Elite Redfish Series and when his motor began idling rough on day 2 and later would not idle at all, here we go again, began to creep into the back of his head.
However, those thoughts were quickly put to rest on day 3 when Barton, launching first and leading the field out of Harborwalk Marina made it to his fish and picked up where he had left off on the 2 days previous.
Day 3 was his 3rd great bag of the week with just under 24 pounds, now all this Elite Series pro had to do was make it back. He did, “pulling into the marina was the first time I felt comfortable all day and the first time I felt like I had it won”.
Charlie was right, no one was catching this pro, this week, this was his week and as a fellow competitor stated “it’s a long time coming, congratulations Charlie”. Charlie is a popular figure with his fellow pros on the Yellowfin Elite Series and someone that everyone cheers for.
Early on day 3 while anglers were waiting to launch you could hear his fellow competitors shouting to him from their boats, “Charlie, do you have my number in case you break down”. “Hey Charlie make sure you put my number in your phone I’m fishing near you and if anything happens I can bring you in” on and on the echoes of true sportsmanship could be heard throughout the basin in those pre dawn moments prior to the launch of the top 10 on day 3.
This was a great achievement for this pro, standing atop this field of anglers after 5 days of practice and 3 days of competition is quite a remarkable achievement. The best of the best battle it out head to head with no team mates and non draw partners in a series custom build for the Elite angler.
It’s hard, it’s intense, it’s not for everybody, this tour is jam packed with challenges, hurdles and most of all, Elite anglers that have won on every level of every circuit since professional redfishing began.
Congratulations Charlie, you hammered the fish, you beat the best of the best and as usual, you did it with class, style and in a typical Texas big way!
Your chariot awaits, the beautiful Yellowfin/Yamaha/Ameratrail boat motor package will be one that we know you will be proud to have won.
