Jeff Steckler’s Wire to Wire Win

Results:   DAY 1 – AFTER 2 DAYS – FINAL RESULTS – HUK HEAVY BAG

IMG_0055Back to his winning ways, Haynie Boats and Waterloo Rods pro Jeff Steckler led wire to wire at the Battle at Bradenton to capture first place and a $50,000.00 pay day.

What a great event and a fantastic yet challenging time for the tour to make it’s return to Florida.

The difference between a $50,000 1st place prize package and $10,000 cash was a solid 2.14 pounds.

Jeff Steckler of Rockport Texas led wire to wire and dominated a field of the very best redfish pros in the country.

Jeff’s winning weight of 61.46 pounds on just 1 live redfish was impressive, especially when you figure in the fact that once an angler put a fish in their livewell, their day of fishing was over. In the state of Florida anglers cannot cull (replace a smaller fish with a larger one) a redfish.

“I caught exactly what I wanted to this weekend, if Jeff wins this event, trust me, he has earned it” stated 2nd place finisher and Florida pro, Mark Sepe as he waited in the Check It Stik hot seat for Steckler’s fish to be weighed.

Texas pros were dominant in this event with 4 of the top 5 spots after day one being all Texas anglers. That trend continued into day 3 with the Super 7 being made up of 3 Texans, 1 South Carolinian, 1 Floridian and 1 Louisianan. However at the day’s end it would be a battle between the 2 furthest tour stops on the tour, south Texas and south Florida with Jeff Steckler and Mark Sepe sitting atop the field of great pros and competitors.

IMG_9835In all, 7 pros shared a total cash and prize purse of $82,100.00 with South Carolina angler and Huk Gear pro Jamie Hough proving how important each cast of the tournament is.

After zeroing on day 1 he caught an awesome 7.45 on day 2 and then failed to weigh a fish on day 3. However, the one fish on the one cast from day 2 netted Jamie over $5,000.00.

The third tour stop in the 2016 season was a success and welcomed the anglers back to the season after their 2 month all star, 1/2 way break.

In all, the anglers brought in a total of 25 redfish (anglers are only allowed to keep 1 fish per day in the state of Florida) weighing a total of 136.52 pounds and with just 1 dead fish over the entire week, these anglers were, well, Elite in their fish care efforts.

What a great event and a fantastic time in the tour’s return to Florida.

Again a special thank you to Nashville recording artist and host of The Right Place with Kevin Sport for bringing your band all the way from Tennessee to be a major part of day 3’s success. We at the Elite Series really appreciated your talents, songs and easy going ways.

Next up, the tour moves back across country to southern Louisiana and the new Hurricane Hole Marina in Grand Isle…

Check out the great rig Steckler took home for his 3 fish weighing a total of 20.54 pounds.

Thank you Yellowfin Boats, Yamaha Outboards and AmeraTrail trailers for your support of the tour, it’s anglers, their families and friends and all of the fans of the Elite Nation.
