For the 2nd time in 3 events, frogg toggs pro, Paul Dufrene takes home the title of Elite Champion. Paul began the 2017 season with a win at the prestigious Louisiana Crawfish Festival in front of thousands of home town supporters and while the crowds were not quite as big this past weekend,

Dufrene still had a lot of support come out to see him compete but had the look of one more focused on the task at hand than the crowds, regardless of who was watching.

However, as day 3’s weigh in approached you could tell this event and the pressure to perform had taken a toll. Dufrene and the other professionals making it through to day 3 looked warned yet relieved to have this one completed, regardless of the way the final standings would read.

The 2017 Mississippi Madness event is in the books and the winning 3 day weight went to Cut Off, LA’s Paul Dufrene. Paul weighed in a total of 77.61 pounds of live redfish and netted the top prize of $15,000.00 and 200 angler of the year points. Second place went to Louisiana Cat pro, Shane Pescay who netted $5500.00 for his finish but also added a cool $65,000.00 Skeeter Boat/Yamaha Outboard/McClain custom trailers rig to his earnings.

IMG_1973Topping the $67,000.00 mark for his 3 days of fishing, Pescay also overcame adversity as early in the morning a misstep landed him on his back in the bottom of his boat after falling off of his casting platform. “Winning this Skeeter Boat definitely makes the pain a bit more numb for sure”, Pescay told the host at Saturday’s live weigh in.

In third place North Carolina pro, Rennie Clark brough 71.80 pounds to the scale and equipped himself well in his rookie season on the Elite Redfish Tournament Series. The top 5 finished off with fellow North Carolinian, Barrett McMullan in fourth and Matagorda, TX pro Josh Gregory in 5th, weighing in 70.52 pounds for his 3 days of fishing.

The anglers on the Yamaha Outboard’s East Division shared over $153,000.00 over the 3 tournament series. Another Head Turning event finished off this 3 tournament divisional series and determined the top 10 anglers that will make their way to the 2018 Classic Kick off representing the East. The head to 5 head to head matches are set for day 1 with 1 vs 10, 2 vs 9, 3 vs 8, 4 vs 7 and 5 vs 6. The same will be determined in the west division at the #MagicOnMustangIsland2017 tournament to be held in Port Aransas later next month.
