Elite Kayak

Nederland, TX: Today, Headturners3, LLC, producer of the professional one angler per boat redfish tournament series will make it’s debut to South Padre Island. The final stop in the 2017 Skeeter Boats Western Division will take place December 1-2-3 in the #SouthPadreShowdown. The schedule of events is below and we invite everyone to come out to see and meet the pros, visit with Santa and take part in all of the Christmas time activities the fine folks from South Padre Convention and Visitors bureau has planned for kids of all ages. 

The dates of this event are December 1-2-3 as all Elite anglers will fish 2 days of head to head competition for a full state allowed creel limit of 3 live redfish per day.

At the conclusion of day 2, the top 5 anglers with the heaviest 2 day total weights will move on to fish day 3. Prior to the “Fab 5” weighing in on Sunday, the final day of competition, the Elite Kayak Open anglers will hit the stage to weigh their catch. Below are some of the informational notes of this event but suffice it to say, this will be a HeadTurning weekend for all of those that attend. Remember kids day at the park, the weigh in and all other activities are free and open to the public.

Elite Redfish Series Kayak Open Schedule:

  • Saturday 4:00 PM Elite Kayak Open Pros last chance for registration and captain’s meeting held at Elite Series weigh in stage at Jim’s Pier.
  • Sunday 5:00 AM Official Releasing of the fleet from single location at Jim’s Pier. 
  • Sunday 2:00 PM Elite Kayak Open Pros return to Jim’s pier and Elite Series weigh in stage to have fished checked, measured and weighed.

Jim’s Pier is located at 211 W Swordfish St, South Padre Island, TX 78597.

Kayak Tournament Field and Format

  • 30 two angler team max full field.

  • Anglers wishing to fish as a single can compete on their own without a team mate.
  • Entry fees will be 250.00 per team.
  • Optional side pot will be 150.00 per team for big fish of the event.
  • Fishing period to be from first cast at 6:00 AM CDT to Kayaks out of water by 1:00 PM CDT.

  • Coast Guard approved PFD’S (life jackets) must be worn at all times an angler is on his/her kayak.

  • Teams may weigh in 2 red drum (redfish) between 20″ – 28″ in length.
  • Anglers may posses only red drum (redfish) during the tournament hours.
  • No iced or fish with damaged tails even if damaged naturally and or healed over.

  • Anglers must proceed immediately to weigh in location after out of water time.

  • Angler(s) failing to make 2:00 check in at weigh in location, for any reason, will be d.q.’d.

  • Paddle or pedal kayaks allowed, no motors of any type can be used.
  • Redfish must be caught alive in a conventional and sporting manner by the angler competing in the Elite Kayak event.

  • Trolling as a method of fishing is prohibited.

  • Anglers must cast, flip or pitch a lure to the fish they catch. No snagging off fish, netting or scooping of distressed surface fish is allowed.

  • Only artificial lures may be used. Live or cut bait is prohibited.

  • Only one rod and reel may be used at a time.

  • No multi lure rigs allowed. I.E. Alabama rigs.

  • A cast must be fully retrieved before another cast can be made.

  • Anglers must compete from their Kayak to catch and land all fish. Wading prohibited.

  • No towing or hauling of Kayak to fishing area by another vessel allowed. Mother shipping prohibited.

  • Anglers must launch their Kayak from known/named highways, marinas or parks open to the public and located within the state that the event is taking place in.

  • Anglers cannot travel on or through private land or roads to reach fishing grounds even if those fishing grounds are open to the public.

  • Anglers will be released from a single meeting spot the morning of the event. The releasing of the fleet.

  • Angler(s) failing to make the official release of the fleet will be disqualified from the event and will not be allowed to weigh in their catch.  

  • Participants must follow ALL Texas Parks & Wildlife Regulations in regards to kayaking and fishing.
