Mystik Lubricant Pro, Erik Rue Wins the Battle!

Erik Rue uses a consistent pattern to land his first victory on the Yellowfin Elite Series. When Erik’s A and B fish ran out (the elite series allows a 5 fish per day limit per angler) and he had to depend on an old milk run he’s used many times over the years for his first win of 2015…

Cut Off, LA angler, Paul Dufrene led for 2 days and looked like he was headed for a sure win. This is the best anglers in the country and leading after 2 days means very little, Dufrene stated after day 2’s weigh in, those comments would become prophetic. When the top 10 anglers launched on day 3 it was under beautiful skies and soft winds but that would change dramatically by the afternoon.

Rain, extreme winds and lightening moved in on the anglers and the tour just before the 3:00 pm weigh in and had many families, friends and fans sitting on pins and needles hoping/praying that everyone in the field of competitors, their cameramen and marshals would make it back ok.

As the Elite Series staff headed to Bayou State Park to check in the boats prior to the final day’s weigh in they did so in the midst of 50+ mph winds and sideways rain.

When the call came that all 10 pros had made it back to check in by the appointed time it was immediately posted on The Elite Series fan page that all anglers and crews were in safely. Now it was time to get the boats and anglers to the weigh in and begin the finale’ with whatever equipment that remained undamaged.

One angler negotiating the storms, stubborn  bites from finicky fish and all other obstacles these pros go through over the 5 official days of practice and 3 days of competition was Erik Rue. The Mystic Lubricant’s pro relied on an old milk run on day 3 to round out his 104.17 pound 3 day total.

Over the 3 days with 5 fish a day you can run out of good water to fish, today I went back to an area I fished years ago and within 30 minutes I knew the fish were there, Rue told the vocal crowd that had assembled, in the worst conditions imaginable, to watch their family and favorites. Erik’s reward for battling the elements, fish and fellow competitors and landing on top? $51,000.00! Thanks to Yellowfin BoatsYamaha OutboardsAmeratrail Trailers

The leader after 2 days slipped to 2nd place, Paul Dufrene weighed in 102.86 pounds for his 3 days of competition, anchored by the big bag of the tournament, 39.59 pounds on 5 fish. Dufrene “netted” $17,500.00.

Third place went to Texas pro, Jimmy Lloyd who weighed in 100.27 pounds to take home $11,000.00 while the top 5 finished with 2015 Classic Winner, Clark Jordan in fourth with 99.59 pounds taking home $10,000.00.

The Marsh Rat, Chad Billiot landed in 5th with a great day 3 weight of 36.04 pounds and took home $6,500.00. Sixth – Tenth place shared $17,000.00 more in cash/check paybacks. The total paybacks for this event including only the cash/checks and the Yellowfin / Yamaha rig totaled $115,000.00.

42 pros weighed in 354 fish weighing a total of 2023.88 pounds with 93.50% being released alive back into the waterways of Jefferson Parish. The average fish, weighed over the weekend, was 5.72 pounds, fishing is great in Jefferson Parish!
