Wire to Wire Champions!

They did it, a wire to wire victory for the mega team of Jimmy Lloyd and Kevin Akin. However, their nearly 2 pound lead fell to a final winning margin of just under 1 pound. 0.96 or 96/100 of a pound.

Jimmy Lloyd of Lumberton Texas has been known as one of the top anglers in the country going way back to the Redfish Cup. Kevin Akin would be at the top of any similar list of professionals and is based out of south Texas. This mega team landed a total of 73.49 pounds of live redfish over the 3 day competition and took home the grand prize Tidewater Boats-Yamaha Outboards-McClain trailers rig with a retail value approaching $60,000.00.

The team netted another $7,700.00 in cash bonuses for finishing first in the tournament’s Big Bag and Angler Advantage twt (tournament within a tournament) programs for a total take topping $67,000.00 for their weekend of fishing.

Pushing the eventual winners all weekend was team TH Marine’s Paul Dufrene and Travis Land. When the dust settled Dufrene/Land finished just ounces behind the eventual winners by weighing in a impressive 72.53 pounds of live redfish netting them a total of $13,000.00. Third place was captured by the team known as Bay Adventures Sportfishing made up of Steve Auld and Thomas Barlow. They weighed in a solid 3 day limit of 70.11 pounds and never used their 1 tagged redfish exemption up to 30″ allowed but stated they were on strong slot fish all weekend and didn’t feel they needed to. For their efforts they took home a cool $5,500.00. Finally finishing in fourth place and winning $2,500.00 was a new team to the Elite Redfish Series, Larry Rowell and Justin Lowry, team Hooks N Hulls. These guys did a great job and held their own with 67.55 pounds over the 3 days, making the cut in their first ERS event which is not a easy task against so many top competitors on the tour.

The wrap up on this event will find a community that opened wide it’s arms, rolled out the red carpet and went out of their way to ensure the tour and it’s anglers had a fabulous experience in Kemah, TX. From the moment Mayor Gale welcomed the angler’s at the captain’s meeting and one of several awesome Kemah Boardwalk bands kicked off the week / weekend activities till the last fish was weighed and the champions took a victory lap aboard their new Tidewater/Yamaha/McClain rig on Sunday afternoon, this event had it all. Big fish, great weather including a mirror calm bay, tremendous food and entertainment and so much more. Thank you to so many that made this event possible and thank you to the Elite Redfish Series staff which did a tremendous job during the 2 days of setting up, 3 days of competition and the breaking down and packing up of all the gear. Thank you to the City of Kemah, the Kemah Boardwalk and the Boardwalk Inn for hosting our tour, it’s anglers, staff and TV production crew. From logistics, facilities, experiences and accommodations, this truly was a Head Turning event and we can’t wait to see you again next year!

The Kemah police provided a full escort for day 3’s final round. Mayor Gale presents the winners with their awards. Pic 3, Kemah fire department fills the tanks for the week. A very special thank you to Elite Redfish Pro Dwayne Eschete who had to work and could not fish this event but was on hand to help execute the weigh ins for the anglers and the tour.

Next up, the Texas swing continues with the Flip Flop Festival event in Port Lavaca, October 30-31.
